Why I’m Joining thriViae: Planned Opportunism, Purpose, and the Future of Work
Planned opportunism leadership is about staying anchored to purpose while remaining agile enough to act when opportunity appears. We live in times that reward speed, adaptability and purpose-driven innovation.
As leaders, we must do more than simply adhere to fixed plans, we need a mindset that’s open to possibility. This isn’t about a chaotic reaction to every change; it’s about remaining anchored to a deeper purpose while responding thoughtfully to emerging signals that can redefine our path.
This approach, planned opportunism, is the discipline of being intentionally agile, ready to move when the right moment arrives.
Throughout my career as a scientist, executive, entrepreneur, and creator of AI products, this principle of planned opportunism has guided my journey. My life’s work has always centred around building products and companies that deliver genuine benefit to society. My background spans academia with a PhD in bioinformatics, early-stage biotech leadership, strategic consultancy, and founding impactful AI start-ups like Faethm AI. I have also contributed significantly to the AI strategy of global businesses, such as Pearson Plc.
Joining thriViae was not a spontaneous choice. It resulted from months of careful reflection about where I could provide the most significant, meaningful impact in a rapidly transforming world. The mission, team, and opportunity at thriViae align deeply with what I’ve been working towards through my career. Given the complexity, disruption, and tremendous opportunities shaping the future of work, joining thriViae now feels not just exciting, but it feels more like a calling.
Why thriViae. Why Now?
Today’s workplace is increasingly volatile. The disruptions we face include accelerating automation and AI adoption, unprecedented economic uncertainty, escalating trade tariffs, relentless data silos, and multi-billion-pound consequences due to failed organisational transformations. In such a volatile climate, traditional “set-and-forget” strategic planning no longer works. Genuine success demands a carefully balanced blend of innovation, agility, and compassionate leadership.
This is precisely why thriViae’s vision, creating thriving workplaces through evidence-based, AI-empowered solutions, isn’t only innovative; it’s essential. By guiding organisations towards meaningful innovation built around real-time workforce intelligence, practical AI integration, and scalable wellbeing strategies, thriViae steps beyond outdated tools and fragmented initiatives towards something dynamic, responsive, and fundamentally human-centric.
Employees want meaning, wellbeing and growth. Businesses seek productivity, innovation and results. thriViae will bridge those needs, empowering both people and businesses to thrive together.
Leading Human-Centred AI at thriViae
I am honoured and excited to join thriViae as Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer. Central to my role is strengthening and expanding our focus on Human-Centred AI. At thriViae, we recognise that thriving organisations revolve around the people who power them, not just the technology that supports them. My priority is ensuring our cutting-edge AI capabilities always reflect a clear, human-first ethos.
Under my leadership, we will emphasise rapid, targeted pilot initiatives and the development of agentic-AI workflows. These intelligent systems enable leaders to identify hidden factors helping or hindering performance and wellbeing, turning insights swiftly into deliberate, strategic action. Ultimately, our AI will amplify human capabilities, not simply automate human tasks.
We’ve already made big strides:
Our MVP, Thriving Teams Workforce Intelligence System is soon to be launched; it will be the world’s first platform that provides real-time insights into the hidden enablers and blockers of workplace performance, wellbeing, and leadership effectiveness.
We’re releasing our first groundbreaking white paper, “The Periodic Table of Human Thriving”. It introduces a new, evidence-driven framework to design workplaces specifically for sustainable human flourishing, productivity, and wellbeing, along with practical strategies to overcome hidden barriers in today’s complex environment.
Creating a New Way of Working
At thriViae, planned opportunism is more than a strategic principle, it’s ingrained in our culture. We remain grounded in our core purpose: helping people thrive and businesses succeed as artificial intelligence reshapes work. We constantly embrace experimentation, actively listen to clients, validate real-world needs, and continuously pilot and test ideas. Our resilience doesn’t end at our systems, it’s embedded deeply within our entire team.
We aren’t just creating a company: we’re shaping a fundamentally different approach to how work happens. This new way combines rich human insights with intelligent technological systems, enabling organisations to unlock and sustain real performance and wellbeing at scale.
Navigating complexity requires more than ever thoughtful innovation, purposeful agility, and adaptive leadership. Our Workforce Intelligence System and “Periodic Table of Human Thriving” are two compelling examples of how we’re practically supporting this urgent need for change. This is where planned opportunism leadership becomes more than philosophy — it becomes a practical operating discipline.
